Most artists keep visual diaries, and we will be keeping our own digital, visual diary by collecting and posting images you are seeing around you: colors, lines, people, your environment. You will make your blog in the Blog page in this Module. A short statement to record what it is about the image that has captured your attention must be added to the blog entry. You should be able to relate the images to the class topics. The reasoning for the project is to open your eyes to visual images and to develop understanding of the terms we are learning as they apply to real life. You will need to create a blog using the page in this Module that has been set up with your name. Watch the video in the page above that has directions for how to create new blog posts. Do not create a blog entry (post) in any other way than what is explained in the video.. You can use any source for your images: online, scanned images of your own, or photos you take yourself. The images you post should relate in some way to the unit’s vocabulary and terms. Write a few words about the image in relation to the unit vocabulary (ex: line, shape, contour drawing, figurative sculpture.)

The classification of style is continued in this weeks reading. Realistic, naturalistic, idealistic are different presentations of the world we see. Learn the characteristics and differences of these art terms. Practice using them in preparation for your essay assignments. The term, abstract, can be more clearly understood when you understand the differences between the styles used to portray the world we see. Think about the difference between the adjectives, abstract, and abstracted. Pure abstraction portrays an image that is “disassociated from any specific instance”; but a depiction from the visible or imagined world can be abstracted to present an image that is recognizable but with less detail, accurate color, etc. than what a camera might capture.
